There are plenty of places you can travel to this Christmas to make the season more enjoyable. One choice you might not have considered before now is Myanmar. Myanmar travel in Christmas is one of the best travel decisions you can make. Here are the reasons why you should spend your Chistmas holidays in the golden land.

1. A More Traditional Christmas

It’s great to see all the Christmas decorations around town, but sometimes you just want to get away from all the commercialisation and enjoy a traditional Christmas. Myanmar is a predominately Buddhist country that went isolated for a very long time, meaning that Christmas is much more traditional in the country. It’s not as commercialised as it is in the west. You can expect modest celebrations free from adverts, movies, and tacky decorations.

2. The Weather is Great

Myanmar travel in Christmas offers some of the brightest and warmest weather of the country. December and January are when the weather is best, which is quite different from the harsh cold, biting winds, and freezing snow most expect from Christmas. The rainy season has passed, so everything is covered in a fresh layer of green. There’s never been a better time for a Myanmar river cruise, which is one of the best ways to get around.

3. Enjoy Christmas Dinner on the Beach

Being in a Buddhist country doesn’t mean having to forget your Christmas dinner. Head to the beach of Ngapali to find plenty of hotels and restaurants serving Christmas dinner. The prices are a little higher, but it is still Christmas after all. Enjoy your Christmas dinner with some cocktails on the beach if you want to. There’s never been a better way to enjoy Christmas.

4. Celebrate At the Church

Myanmar travel in Christmas doesn’t mean having to avoid celebrating Christmas in a church and enjoying the religious aspect of the holiday. There is a Christian community in the country after all. Christianity in Myanmar dates back to the 1800s when the missionaries arrived from Europe and the United States. Take a trip to the Holy Trinity Cathedral or the Saint Mary’s Cathedral to enjoy some carols, midnight mass, and a great nativity.

5. Avoid New Year’s Eve

If you don’t like the sound of all-out New Year’s celebrations then stick around for another week or so and enjoy a quieter, calmer New Year’s. There are some celebrations across Myanmar for the new year, but they tend to be small. Buddhists celebrate the new year in April with the water festival Thingyan. Stay away from the crowds, overpriced cabs, and the promise of unfulfilled resolutions and enjoy the tranquillity of Myanmar travel in Christmas.
